Here's a copy of the end of my dial.txt:

wait 60000 "ocol:" 
wait 1000 
send "ppp mru=1500 idle=300 status up\r"
wait 60000 "HELLO"

It doesn't cause 'bombs' etc., with the normal lines, but I've yet to see
whether it works with an ascend link. (Source of 'status up': this group).
I've only come across du-finch (or whatever) once.
