While it's true that the Apple PlainTalk mic has a built-in preamp and a line level output, it's not true that you can't use an unamplified mic with a 7200. On the CD that comes with the 7200 there's an extension (control panel? - I forget the name) which changes the gain of the sound input amp and allows you to use a 'normal' mic with the 7200's sound input circuitry. A number of off-the-shelf mics were tested with the 7200 and found to work fine when the input amp gain was turned up with the included extension. As I recall, there were several models from Radio Shack that all worked OK, as well as a number of mics from other vendors. - Dale Adams - Dale Adams
