Note the wording: "Apple PlainTalk Microphone...AND a standard stereo (miniplug-to-RCA)..." etc. They are different cases. The Apple plaintalk mike for the PowerMac has a minijack with an extra connection in the middle to supply power to the microphone. If you look inside the Mac, you'll see the connection in the end of the socket. If you use a standard unpowered microphone, like the mikes used with, say, 475s, the level is so low that it doesn't register. Unless the Sony you are using has that power supply, or at least an output level to match that of the Apple kit, it won't work. If you record from your hifi or a Walkman (or a built in CD-ROM), with the volume cranked up until you can see the response on the Mac level meter, everything works fine. So you could record via your hi-fi, or record a cassette and then play that in via a Walkman. Or you could buy the Apple microphone. No, I haven't done that either... Peter
