The most consistent way to check the ping response of your machine with Demon is to use the address 158.152.1.222 (which is a special address representing the NAS you're connected to). And like any attempt to check your systems performance it's best done in controlled conditions, eg little else happening on your machine or at Demon (about now is good...). And with a tool that is fairly common across platforms, in this case command line ping. Also note the packet size being used (ping rates vary with packet size). What you should see from that address with a 64 byte ping is something more in the region of 120-150 with a 56K modem. > I was hainv noticable (audible) line noise problems a couple of nights ago - > these have gone but Imn not sure the line is 100% > My telephone provider is Telewest - I connect using green romp Also try other ROMPs, there may be transient problems with GREEN. Additionally the routeing in Demon between Green and the games servers _may_ (or may not) be slightly inferior to that from the other ROMPs. It's been a while since I looked at one, but it looked on the good side of average to me, ie you may not get 54000 CARRIER, but what you do get should be fairly consistent. And I wouldn't expect to see the dramatic drop in your ping results based on anything in there (the few tests I've done with varying CARRIER and ping did show a relationship, unfortunately I can't find them right now :( -- <URL:http://www.pierrot.co.uk/> Team AMIGA If you're coasting, you're going downhill.
