Maybe. I always believed that the V8 tone was that slightly apologetic
"bleat" (a good word for it), especially as it appeared only when K56
(initially) was enabled on the Ascends. The COLT Ascends still don't do it.


My confusion is that I don't hear any equivalent noise anywhere in the 3Com
warbles. I presume that this means that the Ascend V8 implementation sounds
totally different from the 3Com one. As, indeed, does the whole
negotiation.

I know this isn't important, but I'm curious. Pretty please would somebody
who knows explain the difference between the V8 tone on the Ascends and its
apparent absence on th 3Com terminal servers?
