It apparently worked for the guy who posted it, but not for a friend
in the States whose no-name Rockwell was having negotiation problems
with what were probably Ascends.

I thought I could hear the initial tone whichever I dialled in to, now
I'll have to listen more carefully, where were those cotton buds?

Hmmm, I just checked, and I *definitely* hear the initial "peep" using
the 3Coms on the Green Romp, so if they didn't send it I must have.

Hmmm further, I'm sure I started to hear the tone when K56 was enabled
and I only had a 28.8 or 33.6 modem. . .so that must have come from
the Ascends. As to USR/3Coms prior to V90, can't remember.
