NETCOM X2 Line Test

Having logged onto NETCOM's web site while looking at other ISP's to
replace Demon I found that they clain to offer a means to test your line
to see what performance you can expect if you were to use an X2 modem
when available.

Is this genuine or is it just a publicity stunt? Having tried it I get
told "This connection will support x2!" and a printout detailing results
of the test. This sounds a bit suss to me! Surely all telephones lines
are capable of supporting X2?

However, if this is not the case and I happen to have such a good
telephone line and modem it makes me wonder just how valid Demon's
claims that my connection problems are down to bad telephone lines. BT
say my line is OK, they've removed AGC (as Demon recommend) increased my
level ( again as Demon recommend) to 4 decibels (the max supposedly) yet
I still get piss poor connection rates and frequent line drops using my
Sportster Voice 33.6.

Is NETCOM pulling a fast one or have they indirectly shown me that my
connection problems are not my problem or BT's but Demon's!

NETCOM's test can be found at www.netcom.net.uk/netcom/x2linetest.html

Any comments?
