BBS freezing

sometimes, when connected to the local BBS my screen will freeze for
several seconds (sometimes 10-15) at a time with nothing happening.
Sometimes for no reason i get cut off completely. 
This happens every time with one of the boards, but not every time with
the others'
I have a PACKARD BELL 906D with built in 28000 IBM Modem

Any ideas please
