help installing second hard drive

Forgive me if I am in the wrong newsgroup but I need help.

I have acquired a secongd hard disk and am having
a bit of a problem setting it up.

I intend to use it as a second hard disk.

My BIOS doesn't seem to detect it in its detection
routine.

I assume I have to do this first before i can format it.

The second drive is a Western Digital Caviar 31600

Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.
