I've just been buidling a 486 from bits after the kids' 386 died. I've got a problem with installing the Pro Audio Spectrum 16 soundcard in that the machine hangs during its self-test prior to booting if the card is inserted. It's an AMI BIOS, no indication what brand of motherboard. There are a whole bunch of other cards (SCSI, Ethernet, CD-ROM etc) that I initially assumed there was a conflict with one of these. I have now pulled out every board except the graphics board (Cirrus Logic 5424) & the cheap'n'cheerful multi I/O board that has the disk controllers on. It goes through its memory check, makes noises with the disk drives the displays WAIT...... & that's it. It never gets as far as the beep & System Configuration screen (you'll know what I mean if you have an AMI BIOS). Does anyone have any ideas? This is the 4th PC that this card has been in & it's never been a problem before. Nigel -- Nigel Barker - nigel@openvms.demon.co.uk
