I've tried to link up my various parallel port devices - CD-ROM drive, ZIP drive, printer and scanner, through a 4 way switch to the parallel port so saving the continuous plugging and unplugging of the leads. They all work when switched with the exception of the CD-ROM drive which, whilst the software driver installs and recognises the drive, does not respond to any disk which is placed in it, i.e. File Manager declares no disk in drive. The 4-way switch has all 25 connections wired up to and from its 5 connections; its Maplin's Screened Data Switch ZA63T. The leads are not the problem as connecting them together with a gender changer results in a correctly working CD-ROM drive. Anyone have a suggestion? Mike Parkes mike@mphgate.demon.co.uk
