Upper memory and WIN 95

I have a Dell Pentium computer with Windows 95 on which I am using to run
some DOS applications. When I use MEM from the DOS prompt the largest
executable program is less than 500K. Compared to my old 486 running DOS
v6.2 and WFWG which has near to 600K.

The difference appears to be in the upper memory available. There is very
little upper memory available which means device drivers, TSR's etc. are
loaded into low memory. Suggestions appreciated.

Also, can anyone reccommend a good book which would help sort these kinds of
problems.

Thanks,

Paul
