Also on demon.ip.support.pc I hope this is the right group. I am quite seriously deaf and the worst range of sounds for me are those my modem makes. Even with the gain turned up to maximum I have a hard time hearing it. Hearing aids are uncomfortable and I rarely use mine when I am at home - and I usually forget to put it in until the modem is trying to tell me something. Even when I remember it doesn't help a lot. Wrong range. Just below my modem is my computer. This contains a Soundblaster card which outputs to speakers which, as it happens, are on either side of my modem. The speakers are 'live' containing a battery and a small, *very* lo-fi but effective amplifier. QUESTION: Is there any way in which I can use a microphone to feed sound to the soundblaster and have the sounds from the modem amplified and emitted from the speakers. NOTES: e-mail and other responses have missed the point. 1. It IS an external modem (USR 14K Sportster) and, yes, the lights do help. 2. I don't care about the quality of the sound - just so's it's LOUD. 3. The neighbours have a dog - and I put up with the barking (which even I can hear) so they had better tolerate the amplifed modem. -- Mervyn Baldwin. vyn@abaldwin.demon.co.uk
