Some of those outages lasted weeks because their service scheduling is only weekdays during work hours and weekends, but weekends were typically booked up for weeks. I was out of vacation for several months and since they would only come out when I was there and I wasn't allowed to take time off from work I ended up having no service until a weekend slot was available. More than half the time the technician would not show up at the appointed time window, typically three hours long. No call was ever made to me to let me know that the technician wasn't showing up, as a result, the time I spent waiting for them to show up in vain was wasted. Many times if the technician actually showed up he was unprepared to effect a repair. The problems were always in their cable plant, I never had any problems whatsoever with the inhouse cabling. Over that period of time the rates continued to climb, starting out at $29 and eventually rising to $59. During that time my dowload speed was decreased as well as was my upload speed. Even when it came time to cancel service they didn't deviate from their past behavior. I called in and told them I wanted to cancel service. Wait, let's back up a bit. It took two days to get ahold of someone to order the service disconnect. Their automated system apparently doesn't have many people on staff to deal with service cancellations. When I finally got ahold of someone they scheduled a pickup. You guessed it, I had to be home for them to pick up the modem, to sign a document, and they would only schedule pickup on a weekend or during work hours on a weekday. I didn't feel like burning up one of my precious vacation days, I only have ten, so I scheduled for the first available weekend, almost a month out. At the time of cancellation I asked what the final amount of the bill would be, and was told I would not be charged anything since the order for disconnection was made by me. Larry told me that I could ignore any further bills. So, that weekend I spent three hours waiting by the door, the technicion never showed. I had cancelled plans for that weekend just so I could be there. I called them up and told them their technician didn't show (actually, he showed, but he snuck up to the door and left a tag, not knocking or calling or anything. Their internal protocol is to call the customer and verify that they are home upon arrival at the abode. That protocol was not followed.) I was hot. I told them that their modem would be on the porch and they could send their technician over again at his convenience. They told me that they wouldn't pick up the modem without me signing their document, and that if I wasn't there when their technician came back out again on the next service call a few weeks hence they would charge me some ungodly number for the modem, I think it was something like $100. I hung up on the person because I was tired of hearing the script. When I called back later to schedule yet another wasted weekend service call they told me that I was already schedule for the next day, Sunday, in the morning. So, I cancelled my Sunday plans (what the heck, my Saturday plans were already ruined, why not make it a matched pair). On Sunday the technician actually showed up and guess what he told me? That I didn't have to sign any documents for him to pick up the modem. He signed a receipt and gave it to me and I was done. All that rigamarole about me having to sign their documents was a lie, an institutional lie since I was told that by several of Comcast employees. So, after innumerable wasted weekends, months of sorry or nonexistant service, being lied to over and over again, I finally thought I was through with them. But no, Friday I received a final bill from them for a dollar eighty seven, in spite of the fact that I paid in full all the amounts they themselves told me that I owed them. After all those years of crap, that was the final straw. So, I called them and told them that I wasn't going to pay that and listened to twenty minutes of the person at the other end explain how I owed that (he didn't know what that $1.87 was for, or why I was charged it, only that I owed it and that it would be put on my credit record if I didn't pay it. At that point I hung up. Of course I was upset. How could I not be? I didn't curse the person at the other end at all, not even saying "h e double hockeysticks" or anything. After spending the weekend doing things and not worrying about having to be home for Comcast to not show up (yay!) I called them back Monday to ask them to send me a fully itemized bill for what all that $1.87 was for. If it was legitimate I would pay it, but I doubted that it was legitimate since I hadn't done anything to incur any charges in the more than two months since I'd had service disconnected and the more than a month since they picked up the modem. The person I talked to told me that I had a credit issued against the dollar eighty seven and the account was closed. My guess is that the person I talked to, a supervisor, had taken me at my word that I would never pay that dollar eighty seven. So there. Based on my experience with ComCast, one of the worst experiences that I've been through in my life and I've been through a lot, I couldn't suggest strongly enough that anybody even considering them for anything should run away, fast, and not use Comcast for anything, ever. How's that for calm, lucid, etc? LOL! JazzMan -- ********************************************************** Please reply to jsavage"at"airmail.net.
