Subject: Socket Keep-awake Option?

Hi,
Maybe my reasons for wanting keep-awake are being mis-understood. I
don't want it to disconnect sessions that have gone temporarily awol,
in which case, I agree, let it come back later: the situation I am
trying to recover from is the other end crashing (or timing out in
the case of MSYS).
It doesn't require ICMP involvement: all it needs is for the sending
end to send a 0 length data frame with ACK set. If it doesn't get
through, OK, but if it gets through and the other end has reset the
session, it will respond with an RST, which will cause my end to
reset as well, thus releasing local resources and restart at the next
smtp tick.
The question is, whether tcp can be co-erced into sending a 0 length
data frame (but I guess this is just like any other ACK).
73 Gareth
