The reason I put the above question was that I think Japanese
government do not provide reciprocal benefits to countries those
provide some benefits to Japan. (e.g. rice import restriction)
I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE about the business practice!
I wanted to write and gripe about it my previous posting, but didn't
since it would obscure the original issue of this name change, etc.
|If you mean that the giving of citizenship to a country ought to be
|reciprocated, I am not sure know if I agree on this matter completely.
|I have never thought about that.
Japan has already taken a lot of advantages from free
trade/immigration policies of other countries. I think if Japan denies
the reciprocal-based diplomacy rule and keeps closing its door to the
other nations Japan will lose something unrecoverable.
I don't know if Japan has taken advantage of immigration policies of
other countries (except for this MITI or somebody's stupid idea of
promoting the stay of retired (and presumably rich?) people in foreign
coutnries like Spain, etc. I couldn't believe they talk about it with
straight face!) My grandfather's brothers emigrated to Canada, but it
was long time ago, and then Japan was a poor country. I don't know if
we should make a judgement here.
Re Trade policy, for sure! Today's Japan is a workhorse of world
economy and undue restrictions about import to the country is
inexcusable!
Well, we will probably have to deal with many immigrant issues when
Chinese government either collapses or goes through turbulent change
of hands. We just couldn't pass all the boat people to Canada and
other countries like we did after the end of Vietnam war. We will see
if Japan in last 15 years or so has come to prepared to carry the kind
of responsibility that her economic performance has implicitly given
her.
Just some thoughts...
Just my 2 yen worth.
