But, if it is useful to use it, why not? I use it to go to work, takes me
maybe 15 minutes longer (ok, maybe more nowt hat I cannot park at the
closest one cause the lot fills up). It's a *lot* cheaper for me to take
marta (10 dollars a day parking vs 50 dollars a month Marta plus I don't
spend as much on gas). To me that's worth an extra 10-25 minutes commute.
Granted not everyone it is as easy as this, but one hing I did was make
sure that the apartment I moved into had good Marta access (it has great
in fact, we're right in the middle of the fork between the dunwoody and
doraville line, which saved me when the Dunwoody and Medical center lots
filled up). Hell, I get to sleep on Marta or read and not worry about
stupid drivers hitting my car. I get chauffered for most of my commute.
Yes, I do drive to Marta, but it still is a big improvement on me driving
all the way to work both enviromentally (as shown by how little gas I
use), economically, and sanity wise (it really is nicer to take marta for
an hour than fight traffic for 45 minutes). Of course, I also am lucky to
work somewhere that has great Marta access, it's right off a station exit
:). But it's not like where I work is unique in that aspect, there are
many workplaces that are also at most a short walk from the Marta station
(hell, mine's a short walk from Five Points if I don't want to change
trains, probably is quicker to walk than to wait for the west line train).

So, while it isn't great for some, it is for others and it would be good
if people would use it even if it is a little more time than just driving
(though they need to get bigger parking lots on the dunwoody line). I do
agree Marta needs to improve, but it's never going to be equal time wise
to driving to yourwork, but if it could make it that it is not a big time
difference for many people, that would be great! And if people were
willing to go jus ta little out of their way to be more enviromental (and
actually cheaper on their wallets), it would be a good hting too.
