I live about 7.5 miles from work. Takes me 15 minutes to get there,
and about 20 to get home. I'd not mind riding a bike, at least in the
spring and fall, and maybe more regularly if there were shower
facilities at work.

But unless/until they put in bike paths or sidewalks covering the
whole distance, there is No Way In Hell that I'm going to even think
about leaving my subdivision while riding a bicyle. The roads are too
narrow and the drivers too nasty to risk it. Heck, even in my
subdivision, which is one of those evil cul-de-sac subdivisions (with
maybe 75 homes, tops) and thus isn't a short-cut anywhere, people
regularly speed through at 50 mph.
