I've recently obtained a copy of Gnuchess for the Mac from a FTP site I have a question for anyone who may have used this concerning the opening book. Is it possible to modify the opening book file (gnuchess.book) using a text editor (such as Microsoft Word) that the application will recognize? Will I have to recompile Gnuchess to do this (I currently don't have a C compiler on my Mac)? If this is possible, I'd like to be able to tailor the opening book so that I can practice my favorite openings. Has anyone out there done this? -- JOHN A. SWARTZ - The MITRE Corp. If you want to support the Informant symbols and chess diagram and notation output, you might want to build in support for the USCF standard for encoding chess information in high ASCII. Unfortunately, it does not exist yet, but the USCF committee on computer chess, which I chair, just voted to develop one quickly during the next year. E-mail me at schiller@tira.uchicago.edu if you want more information. Eric Schiller
