keypad number-keys on a pc connected to a sun

I am having trouble with a pc hooked up to a sun through Sun's
version of TELNET (from their pcnfs package) when running emacs.
I want to be able to use the number keys on the keypad to enter
numerical data, but all that I get is control characters that
send my cursor all around the screen. Does anyone know how
to fix this problem?
