Hi!

I just got vm-5.32beta.tar.Z from the uunet mirror in UK and found the
Makefile to be:

EMACS=emacs

VM:
	$(EMACS) -batch -q -l ./vm-message.el -l ./vm-misc.el -f batch-byte-compi\
le *.el
	cat vm-*.elc > vm.elc

vm:	vm.texinfo
	$(EMACS) -batch -q vm.texinfo -f texinfo-format-buffer -f save-buffer

all:	VM vm

and typed Make and emacs recompiled every single .el file in the
non-empty directory where I unpacked it. As all vm related elisp are
nicely prefixed with vm-, I suggest the following modification:

EMACS=emacs

VM:
	$(EMACS) -batch -q -l ./vm-message.el -l ./vm-misc.el -f batch-byte-compi\
le vm-*.el
	cat vm-*.elc > vm.elc

vm:	vm.texinfo
	$(EMACS) -batch -q vm.texinfo -f texinfo-format-buffer -f save-buffer

all:	VM vm
 
clean:
	rm vm-*.elc
