Using vm-mail, I inadvertantly sent a message with unbalanced parentheses in the To line. To: (Cog Studies Program the actual people getting the message, including myself, being listed on the Bcc: line. When I next tried to read my mail using vm, I got an error message to the effect that the variable "address-start" was undefined and I couldn't read new mail (including the Bcc copy to myself and the various bounced copies coming from other machines). I was able to correct the problem by using find-file to read my INBOX and then deleting the offending messages. Hmmm, that's bad. This doesn't sound like VM code, but rather something from rfc822.el. I'll probably have to stop using the particular routine involved.
