When using Ghostscript the "resolution" of the font is really irrelevent.
The problem you are having is that most of the Ghostscript fonts are
not of commercial quality yet, but they are getting better.  In the
last release of Ghostscript (2.4), there are two very good fonts that
were donated by IBM and Adobe to the X Consortium.  I find that they
both do a superb job in faxes.  An exerpt from the Ghostscript file
"Fontmap".
