I really think A4 paper should be catered for properly in the laserjet driver, there are always people having trouble getting it to work. Off the top of my head I seem to remember that you need to reduce the bottom margin value if the top of the page is being clipped. The reason being that the origin of the printed page is at the bottom and increasing the margin moves the image UP the page. Getting the margin values correct is a bit trial and error since it depends on your printer (OK I suppose this is one excuse for not catering for it properly). Set all the values to zero and then see what it looks like. To set them correctly find or create a straight ASCII file that prints around the edges of the page, print it out and then measure the distance between the edge of the image and the edge of the paper. These will be your margin values. I believe they're used to shift the image onto the area of the paper that the printer can actually print on. Another thing to check is that the page size isn't set in the printer control codes used to initialise the printer. For the deskjet the initialisation sequence puts the printer into US letter size regardless of what your DIP switches are. This needs to be changed to A4. I may have missed a few other points, it's been a while since I hacked this driver. If the above hints don't solve the problem then get in touch and I'll send you a modified driver p.s.
