Apologies in advance if this is an FAQ-type question, but I've
been butting my head against this wall for some period of time.

When using Ghostscript 2.4 to preview output from groff 1.00,
Ghostscript aborts with an "/undefined in RE" error message.
The values on the operand stack are /Courier@0 ENC0 /Courier (for
example).

This is the standard RE macro used with groff.  Entering similiar
information by hand into the interpreter works perfectly.  
The test files which come with Ghostscript also work quite 
well, and Ghostscript successfully displays files produced by
psroff very happily.

I have manually stripped all of the BROKEN_SPOOLER type comments
out, and have even replaced "bind defs" with "defs" on some of
the macros which are listed as being suspect in the groff 
PROBLEMS file.  Ghostscript is acting as though macro 
expansion/substitution is not working correctly, for if one
manually replaces macros with the actual commands (i.e.,
replaces RE with the equivalent operations), the document
works.

I would be overjoyed to hear that this is a stupid error
on my part.  Please feel free to tell me that it is - but
tell me what it is so I can fix it!
