Several Unix users have reported that Ghostscript 2.5 runs 2-4 times slower than Ghostscript 2.4.1. The problem with working with a fast development machine (an 80486/33 in my case) is that one doesn't notice major performance differences. I just verified that the tiger's head takes 5.3 seconds to render with Ghostscript 2.4.1, and 12.7 seconds with Ghostscript 2.5. I don't know how this happened, but I'll find out soon and fix it. Between this problem and a couple of other reported bugs, I've decided to do a 2.5.1 release sometime in early September. I'll do my best not to introduce any new bugs between now and then. :-) L.
