more bugs in cpio 1.5

In line 343 of utils.c on cpio 1.5, it xallocs memory and then seacrhs
thru it looking for NULL elements to insert data into. Problem is that
nothing clears this newly xalloced memory. AM I off abase here??

(symtoms that led me to find it. line 384 was looping endlessly. )
