SCO unix & GnuMake

I have recently compiled GnuMake on SCO Open Desktop V1.1 and
am having a few problems.

1. gmake always recompiles and reinserts the object file in a library, even
when the source file is older than the object file in the library.

2. gmake fails when I have more than ~150 dependancies, I'm not sure the
exact number, but when I remove one all is well, add one back and I get
unable to execute command failures.

3. I am unable to get the IF to determine if a variable
is blank. (I may not be using IF right, but it works with
everything but empty strings)

If anyone has solved any of these problems I would appreciate
the solutions.

I am using gmake version 3.62.

Thanks,
Jim Coleman
