It's interesting.  Most people seem to use the idea of religion and dogma
interchangeably.  They are not the same.  Dogma is a set of rules based on
the human interpretation of some document held to be sacred by its faithful.
The Bible is a set of parables; fables if you will.  It is a series of life
lessons that are supposed to be timeless.  The Bible itself, has very few
rules.  Whether the Bible is the inspired word of God, is a matter of faith;
it is the basis of Judeo-Christian religions, but it is not dogma.  The best
example of dogma, in the Christian sense, is Canon Law.  Canon Law is the
set of rules the Catholic Church expects its adherents to live by.  It is
not the Bible nor is it part of the Christian faith.  The faith part comes
in the belief the humans who produced Canon Law and interpreted the Bible
did so correctly.

You are also taking the Bible literally.  What is interesting about the
Bible (and a lot of other sacred books from other religions) is the story in
Genesis.  If you take the six days of creation as phases rather than days
(that could last anywhere from a few seconds to a few million years) then
only the appearance of birds appears out of order from current scientific
thinking about the creation of the universe until present day.  It is just
very general.

This probably comes from the writers of the Bible being unable to explain a
concept in common language.  Again, whether one believes that the concepts
are the inspired word of God is a matter of faith.

The Bible was a guidebook and some of the traditions associated with
religion had a very practical application at the time they were written
down.  Jews, keeping Kosher, are prevented from eating certain foods, and
eating certain combinations of foods.  If you examine them a little more
closely, and understand that 3000-5000 years ago there was no preservatives,
certain foods were more susceptible to parasites and combinations of certain
foods could be lethal if the food was spoiled.

There is nothing really untrue about the Bible, whether you have the faith
that it is the inspired word of God or not.  It simply has to be read and
interpreted in the right context and not literally.
