As a member of the PTU, I fully support their actions.

Officers of the PTU are elected. If we are unhappy with them and their
decisions, we can elect someone else. I believe the constitution even
permits some sort of method for removing them from office if the
membership is unhappy enough with them. I feel there is no reason to
waste time and money holding a special referendum, when they already have
the support of the membership.

Yes, but at the same time it is the techers' responsibility to explain or
discuss all aspects of the issue - not just from one direction. That does
not mean that all 'sides' require equal weighting, but one of the ideas of
teaching (it seems to me) is to help the student become more able to think
and examine issues for themselves, and arrive at their own reasoned
decisions.
