Best pizza?

Hope this doesn't sound >too< nerdy, but I'd love to know what
some other users think is the best place to get pizza. I'd
disqualify automatically ANY and EVERY one of the chains
(Pizza Hut, Pizza Inn, Dominos, etc.).

My wife's favorite is Star Pizza, off Shepherd/Greenbriar,
one block north of Hwy. 59. It definitely takes hand made
(in a good way). I used to love the Pizzeria Uno way out
west on Westheimer; I'm less thrilled with the newer one
at Richmond & Kirby (which is near us). My current fave
is Birra Porreti's at River Oaks shopping center: I always
order a "bianco" (no tomato sauce) with hamburger & anchovie.
I always get to eat the whole thing myself, too!

Any other favorites or recommendations?

Well, "best pizza" is n itself a rather subjectve term, since people have
different preferences (neopolitan, heavy sauce, thick crust (so-called
Chicago), thin crust (so-called NY), etc).

My favorite place in terms of quality of the pizza and a decent price is
Fuzzy's. The original is somewhere just west of the loop near I-10
(I believe, forgot the exact address), the new one is off of Kirby
and Bolsover just north of Rice Village in the shopping center with the
Windsurfing place (and defunct Village Cafe).

I haven't eaten it myself (but it looks good) but several friends like the
pizza at Paradox, which is a jazz club (most of the time) in Montrose on
Banks. As a rule, I don't eat food sold at "drinking and entertainment"
type places (i.e. "clubs") but I may cave in. Everyone I know loves the
food there. It also scored high in one of the city's weeklies that rated
Pizza a while back ...

I'll give Star Pizza my vote. I like the whole wheat crust with spinach and
tomatoes. I'd also vote for my own home made pizza, but that doesn't count.

I think it is important to stress that, while Star pizza is "good
good and good for you", that you should only go there if you have a
spare 16 hours as they are without doubt the slowest eating
establishment on the face of the Earth. However their Joe pizza is only
one-upped by the 3 cheese, basil, red onion, and garlic pizza at
Paradox.
   Enjoy.

I went to Fuzzy's in the village two weeks ago and I was
not at all thrilled. The food wasn't bad, but neither was it
particularly good. At their prices for a sandwich and pizza, I
expected something better than mediocre. For mediocre pizza,
   I'll go to Guitta's (Hi jwd2 :-) I won't be going back to Fuzzy's.

For the record, we had pepperoni pizza and a sausage parm hero.

I wish I could be so positive about Star Pizza. My recent experiences
(in the last two years) have all been negative. I've been doggedly
going back every two months or so hoping for a turn-around but
with no luck.

The service is slow, the pizza is now coming 'wet' which is rather
nasty. To top it all off, the last time I was there that
little hippie-witch hostess lied to me and said the upstairs
was full. Five minutes later her friends arrive and they are
given seats upstairs. PFPPFPTPTPT.

Since that last experience I haven't been back to Star.
Screw 'em. They don't deserve my money.
