Heatsinks in 486DX-50 based PC's

We're having a slight disagreement with one of our suppliers regarding
the cooling of a 486DX50 computer.

These machines were sent to us using a cheap baby AT case, with only
one small fan in the power supply, and no heatsink on the CPU.

I personally do not feel that the fan in the power supply is pulling enough
air thru the chassis to sufficiently cool the CPU.

The supplier does not feel that a heatsink is needed, and claims that
they have 100's of computers out there without them. They're willing
to put one in, for a fee.

I'm looking for sources of information regarding this. Perhaps where I
might find a copy of any Intel literature regarding this, or any studies,
tests, etc.

I'm interested in something fairly scientific, if possible.

I'm just rather tired of arguing with these people.

Call Intel.

You might call intel's literature distribution center (if that's what they
call it) say you're affiliated with the university and they can give you
the 'data book' for free. The like it much better if you have part
numbers.
