Dogs ARE allowed on the San Francisco Municipal Railroad 
(buses/trolley buses/streetcars/cable cars) except M-F 5-9 A.M. and 3-7 
P.M.

They are supposed to be muzzled or boxed and they are supposed pay 
whatever level of fare their owner pays.

This probably belongs in the category of "urban legends" but there was a 
story in the late, unlamented, San Francisco Progress about a woman who 
got on a 30-Stockton in Chinatown with a live chicken. When the bus 
driver asked for a fare for the chicken, the woman strangled it on the 
spot to save the fare.
