Someone who is a bit more culturally aware can probably give you a better answer than I, but I'll take a stab at it. The best way I can describe it is that dim sum is a style of service and food found in some Chinese restaurants and tea rooms. It's sort of like a moving appetizer buffet; waitresses bring carts or trays by your table. Each tray has a variety of different dishes on them, and you point at or tell the waitress what you want as something interesting goes by. By American standards, most of the dishes are the size/style of appetizers: Spring rolls, steamed meat buns, potstickers, etc. You are charged by the number and types of dishes you've eaten. In some places, they simply count the number of plates on your table and multiply by the price/plate. In LA, it is more common to have a card that gets punched or marked every time a dish is set on your table, and then you get charged based on the number of marks/holes in your card. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | The opinions expressed above are my own and do not necessarily | | represent those of The Aerospace Corporation, El Segundo, CA. | | | | Kraig R.
