We (an anynomous group of diners, yearning for dessert)
visited Lyonen & Bjornen (the Lion and the Bear) Ice Cream in West LA
last night. This place serves Swedish ice cream; it's the first US
franchise of a popular Sewdish chain.
The ice cream is delicious, made fresh daily, but what makes
the place special are the unusual flavors. Marzipan ice cream, yum.
Grapefruit sorbet with a real bite. Lingonberry, ja, sure. There are
various chocolate, coffee, and/or liquour combinations which, I am
told, are astounding. There are different flavors each day. On the
"down" side, the ice cream style is *not* super-high-fat.
We visited the store on Santa Monica Blvd., 1 block west of
Bundy. There's also a store in Beverly Hills. Happy Hour is 10-11 PM
-- half price scoops!

PS: This has nothing to do with food, and isn't really Swedish, either,
but does anyone out there know how to get hold of a copy of the
film "Du Duve"? CMR.
