I met my wife at the Espresso Bar 10 years ago. Back then it was so homey and friendly (sigh).
Actually it still is, except that there tend to be occasional invasions from the University of
Spoiled Children: its a kool place to be and you don't need to be 21. Its loose and you get
to talk to people you didn't know before you arrived. Theres live music/poetry on
"Express Yourself" night (Thursday) which is a bit of a pot luck as you might expect
from the name. Good selection of coffee of course and desserts - no actual "food" food.
Its also open into the small hours, in fact after the parking structures have closed ha ha.
Its a bit hidden...go east down the alley off Raymond between Colorado and Green.

Other coffee places on Colorado 1 minute walk from the Espresso:
Talking Room (S side, W of Raymond): check out the pasta and pizzas...all wood panelling .
Mi Piace (N side, E of Raymond): the place to see and be seen always crowded
Aux Delice (S side W of Fair Oaks): great patisserie made on the premises. Owner studied
Drosophila RNA at Caltech for 10 years - is this a qualification?
Old Town Bakery(S side corner of Pasadena Ave): Take home some rosemary bread,
preferably as soon as you arrive.
