The founders of agriculture in Catal Huyuk, in what is now Turkey, moved west and east, reaching Europe and the Indian subcontinent about the same time. The Bhagavad Gita is basically about the fair-skinned Aryans on horseback bringing Anatolian civilization to the dark-skinned aborigines. As for sanitation in the West, it emerged in Sumeria, Bablyonia, Egypt, Crete, and Greece, in at least some places, before sanitation arrived in most of India. (From those I know who have visited India, sanitation has still not apparently arrived in much of the country...they describe the morning spectacle of men and women and children squatting and defecating, side by side, near the rivers. I guess it pays to be "regular" in India.) --Tim May
