You definitely want to take 101, then. There are just a few "twisties" on 5
(see Dan Abel's post) and the only road sensation you'll get is of a ton of
people in a hurry to get from A to B.

I can't recommend any specific restaurants, but I can suggest that you try
not to be at Big Sur at mealtime. In our house we joke about the Big
Surcharge... nothing is that memorable, although the views are always good.
And I like the food at the cafe downstairs better than Nepenthe upstairs.
