PacificNet.net---any takers?

At a computer show yesterday, I met representatives of PacificNet, a Los
Angeles-based Internet provider that has access numbers in the 213, 818,
310 and 805 area codes. Having experienced some news problems with
Primenet, I am interested in alternatives. Their service is only $18.95 a
month for unlimited use (compared to $24.95 for 150 hours of Primenet,
which is more than enough time for me), and while their Canoga Park POP
has only about 60 or so lines, they assured me that there are never more
than 20 or so of its modems in use at any on time (though I'm aware that
can change quickly at any moment, and I hope they are too :). They also
told me that their service has been reliable, has suffered few outages and
slowdowns, and is mostly busy-signal free (they almost guaranteed me that
I wouldn't experience one).

I would like to know if anyone here has had any experience with them, and
what is their quality of service like? Is their news function reliable and
fast (downloading the contents of newsgroups, etc.)? Have they experienced
many outages? How long have they been in business? How is the quality of
their technical support? Have they expereinced "growing pains" like so
many other Internet providers? Do they appear to be an ethical company?
Would you recommend them to a friend? How do they compare to Primenet,
EarthLink, Netcom, PSI and other local Internet providers? And other such
questions...

Also, are there any more questions I should ask them before I sign onto
them, or any other Internet service?

I would appreciate email replies as well as replies to Usenet, as I rarely
read the newsgroups I posted this in (la.general, ca.general).

Peace,

<> David
