No more than when I drive on a public road, I am inviting you to take my car down to the store when you feel like it. My car has locks on it to prevent you from using it ( if your conscience and morals don't ). The DNC is a lock on my phone to prevent you from using it. Go buy your own phone and call yourself. I have an internet connection to my private network. Within my network I run several webservers and other things. Guess what ? Neither you nor anyone else is authorized to access them without my permission ! I can 'look out' ( use the internet, IE the phone system ), but you can not 'look in' ( use or even see my network ) even though they are connected ! Because I own the things I own, and you don't get to use them without my permission ( which you do not have ). >general statement given if you have a standard phone service. You can tell >you phone service that you don't want certain people to call you: ie. those >who use caller id protection & those orignating from numbers you tell the >phone company to block (there may also be other ways that I don't know >about). There are ways to handle this outside more regulation. This DNC is another way to tell another group of 'certain people' not to call me, if that is what I wish to tell them ( by signing up ). It's not 'regulation', it's a service, provided so that those who wish to sign up have a means of communicating with the vast tele-asshole community in a way that is logistically feasible. It is a facilitation of the desires of the people. >Besides the truth of the matter is, this law - like so many others - won't >do a damn thing. But it's a nice thought :-) BTW, the tele-asshole industry doesnt' seem to understand it, or at least pretends not to, because they're screaming that it will put them out of business. Which I wish it would, but I suspect it won't.
