I have a problem. I need my machine at home to act like an ISP. At home I have a small network of a linux redhat 5.1 server and two win 95 machines. On the redhat server at home I develope internet sites. What I need to be able to do is dial into my machine at home and be able to surf the sites on that box and ftp to and from it. At the moment I can dial into the box and open a terminal connection from my win95 box at work. I'm not worried about security and I will only be dialing in from one machine here at work. I have recompiled the kernal to include ppp and slip but all of the documentation I have seen so far is just confuse and relys (in the case of slip) a command slattach. I don't seem to have any sl0 or sl1 in /dev/ I thought slip would be better because it is simpler and we are only talking about one connection at a time. Help me!! Can anyone help me with some full proof instructions or a man page etc that are redhat 5.1 compatable. thanks Duncan

Then check the serial HOWTO which tells you how to get your machine listening to the modem waiting for someone to dial in. THe basics of what you want ot do are: 1) make sure you have W95 doing ppp correctly. You must know how to make W95 dial in and start ppp manually. 2) make sure pppd is on your RH system - which pppd make sure it has the right files (see the ppp HOWTO) including the /etc/ppp/options one. 3) set up your modem and mgetty so you can reliably dial in and get a RH prompt. 4) now try typing pppd at the RH prompt from 3) , you should get a lot of garbage on the screen. run ppp from W95 (as per 1) and you should get conencted or dropped. Check your /var/log/messages file for useful info. YOu might need to add "debug" to your /etc/ppp/options file. I think there is also an ISP-HOWTO or similar which may have useful info. ALso check the Network Administrator's Guide. Zebee
