FOR $740 MILLION DESKTOP IV CONTRACT

SunSoft Also Announces Federal Distribution Agreement With GTSI

UNIX EXPO, New York, Sept. 22, 1992-- SunSoft Inc., today announced
that the INTERACTIVE UNIX System has been specified as the 32-bit,
POSIX certified operating system of choice in the pending U.S. Air
Force Desktop IV contract. Desktop IV is one of the largest
microcomputer acquisitions ever with an estimated value of more than
$740 million over three years.

In addition, SunSoft strengthened its position in the federal market by
signing a distribution agreement with Government Technology Services,
Inc. (GTSI), the leading reseller of microcomputer hardware, software
and networking products to the federal government market as well as a
reseller of workstations, software and peripherals. This marketing and
distribution deal adds the INTERACTIVE UNIX System product line to
GTSI's Government Services Administration Schedule B/C (GSA), making it
easy for government buyers to purchase INTERACTIVE UNIX. The
GTSI/SunSoft relationship demonstrates GTSI's continuing commitment to
providing comprehensive open systems solutions

In light of the other major Department of Defense and civilian agency
contracts which specify SunSoft products, Desktop IV solidifies
SunSoft's position as a major player in the government system software
marketplace. Other recent successful bids for INTERACTIVE UNIX System
software in the federal market include contracts with the U.S. Postal
Service, U.S. Army, Defense Logistics, Veterans Affairs and the
Treasury Department. The combined total value of these contracts is in
excess of $2 billion over the next 3-5 years.

"The pending Desktop IV contract, combined with our new relationship
with GTSI, reaffirms SunSoft's continuing momentum in the federal
marketplace," said Mary Anderson, director of channels marketing for
SunSoft. "These wins demonstrate that INTERACTIVE is being recognized
as a strong, robust operating environment that meets federal government
specifications today and in the future."

SunSoft, Inc., headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., is a subsidiary
of Sun Microsystems, Inc. The company has offices in North America,
Europe and Asia. SunSoft is a leading supplier of 32-bit system
software solutions for SPARC and Intel 80386/486-based computers. The
products are licensed by SunSoft and distributed through major computer
manufacturers and resellers worldwide.
