DIGITAL TOOLS PORTS AUTOPLAN TO SOLARIS 2.0 FOR INTEL
NEW YORK/UNIX EXPO Q Sept. 22, 1992 Q Digital Tools, Inc., the leading
provider of project management software for UNIX workstations running
either the Open Look or Motif graphical user interfaces, has
successfully ported its key product, AutoPLAN, to SunSoft's Solaris 2.0
distributed computing environment for personal computers (PCs) based on
the Intel 80X86 architecture. The software is scheduled to be
available for Solaris 2.0 for SPARC platforms in the second quarter of
1993, and for Intel platforms shortly thereafter. AutoPLAN is on
display in Digital Tools' booth, #1063, and in SunSoft's booth, #1219.
"SunSoft is pleased to have an important product like AutoPLAN lined up
for its customers in the PC marketplace. As an early adopter of
Solaris, Digital Tools is one of the first companies to successfully
re-compile from SPARC to Intel architecture," said Denise Peck,
SunSoft's Group Manager, Developer Marketing.
"We were able to easily re-compile AutoPLAN to suit the Intel
architecture," said Phillip (Flip) F. Whalen, Jr., Digital Tools' Vice
President of Sales and Marketing. "Now PC users can benefit from the
powerful features of Solaris 2.0 and proven Solaris applications such
as AutoPLAN."
Available since 1990, AutoPLAN is a project management software program
that helps users organize a projectUs many variables, such as
schedules, tasks and resources. The software enables users to view the
network of relationships involved in a project and quickly explore
alternative or Rwhat-ifS scenarios in order to meet deadlines and
accomplish corporate and project objectives. AutoPLAN currently runs
on workstations built by Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard and
Motorola.
Digital Tools, Inc. is the leading developer of project management
software for Unix workstations, and a recognized source for custom
software development services. Founded in 1989, Digital Tools, Inc. is
privately held.

RAPID APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT
PORTED TO SOLARIS 2.0 FOR INTEL
NEW YORK/UNIX EXPO -- (Sept. 22, 1992) -- Market Focus Technologies, a
division of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), has
ported its key product, Visual Programming Environment (VPE), to
SunSoft's new Solaris 2.0 distributed computing environment for
personal computers (PCs) based on the Intel 80X86 architecture. VPE
will be available for Solaris 2.0 for the SPARC platform this month,
and it will ship for the Intel platform in early 1993. It is on
display in the SunSoft booth, #1219, and in the Market Focus
Technologies booth, #1713.
"SunSoft has been impressed with VPE's cross-platform capabilities for
quite some time," said Denise Peck, SunSoft's group manager, developer
marketing. "We are extremely pleased that it will soon be available to
our customers in both the workstation and PC arenas."
Designed for use with a wide range of workstations and Unix-based PCs
operating in heterogeneous environments, VPE already has been
successfully sold into commercial, technical and industrial markets.
But Market Focus believes the commercial arena will increase even more
for VPE now that the product has been ported to SunSoft's new Solaris
2.0 solution for Intel-based PC platforms.
"The recompiling process was so easy that it enabled us to be among the
first developers to port to Solaris on Intel as part of SunSoft's
early-access program," said Tom Scrivner, Market Focus division
manager. "This certainly will give us an edge as we, like SunSoft,
expand further into the commercial mainstream."
VPE 2.4 already supports PC Unix environments through compatibility
with Interactive, SYSTEM VR4, and SCO Unix. It also runs under Solaris
2.0 for SPARC platforms, and other major operating systems.
Established in 1985, Market Focus Technologies provides application
development solutions to financial, service (travel, hotel, retail and
medical markets), transportation, utility and government
organizations. Market Focus Technologies joined SAIC's Commercial and
International Group in 1991, and is now located at SAIC headquarters in
San Diego. SAIC is a diversified high-technology company with annual
revenues exceeding $1.28 billion. The company has about 14,000
employees in more than 200 offices worldwide.

New Utilities for the NetMetrix(tm) Toolset
Metrix Network Systems announces two new utilities for the NetMetrix
toolset. All you need is a SPARC system to use this toolset.
1. Trend Analysis
Use your SPARC system to do the following types of things:
- Continuously monitor the traffic on your network segments.
- Generate daily reports which are automatically sent to you
via electronic mail.
- Examine network trends over long periods of time such as
days, weeks and months.
2. Network Configurator
The Network Configurator allows you to obtain a better understanding
of your enterprise wide network traffic. You can, interactively,
try out various scenarios of network configuration to study their
effect on network traffic.
Here are some of the things that you can do with the configurator:
- Analyze inter-segment traffic.
- See how traffic to and from servers is distributed amongst
various segments.
- Study the effect of "moving" servers and nodes from one segment
to another on network traffic and on bridges and routers.
- Compute topologies to reduce inter-segment traffic.
- Decide how to partition existing segments.
Free Evaluation
---------------
The software is immediately available for a free 30-day evaluation within
US and Canada (and through participating dealers in other countries).

Questions and Answers:
SayIt!
Voice Recognition Macro Building Software
for Sun Workstations
Q. What is SayIt?
A. SayIt is a powerful macro building software package combined
with speaker dependent voice recognition for Sun workstations.
Q. How does SayIt learn to recognize my voice?
A. You train SayIt to recognize your voice by repeating each
new command three times. This typically takes only ten seconds
for each command.
Q. I have a heavy accent. Will SayIt work for me?
A. Yes! SayIt uses speaker dependent voice recognition. This means
that you train SayIt to recognize the unique characteristics of
your voice. SayIt will work for any accent AND any language.
Q. Does SayIt require any internal hardware?
A. No. SayIt is completely software-based. The only requirement
is a microphone to hook up to your SPARC-based computer.
Q. How can SayIt increase my productivity?
A. By building time-saving macros, SayIt lets you access
application commands that can take multiple keystrokes
or mouse clicks, just by saying a single word.
Q. Can I also access the application macros through the keyboard?
A. Yes! With a single keystroke or mouse click you can display
a menu of all your macros. Any macro can then be selected
for execution with either the mouse or arrow keys.
Q. What types of things can I do in an application?
A. Since SayIt allows macros to include mouse clicks,
mouse drags, keystrokes, and drag and drop, any repetitive
sequence you do in any of your applications (or between
applications) is possible to put in a macro.
Q. How long does it take SayIt to respond to a voice command?
A. SayIt works in real time. It takes less than a second
from the time you finish saying a command until SayIt
recognizes the command and starts to execute your macro.
Q. How many commands can I add to SayIt?
A. There is no fixed limit on the number of commands you can
add to SayIt. In fact, with SayIt, you can organize your
commands in logical groups, so it's easier to remember what
you've recorded as macros.
Q. Will SayIt slow down my machine?
A. SayIt is designed so that when you're not talking, your
system will not be loaded. The CPU load on a SPARC IPC is
less than one percent while SayIt is waiting for you to
issue a command. While performing voice recognition, there
is a brief period of high CPU use, which drrops as soon
as the command has been recognized.
Q. Will my SunMicrophone work with SayIt?
A. Absolutely! In fact, most microphones that plug into
the audio adaptor on Sun workstations will work. Check
with Qualix for more information on specific microphone models.
Q. I'd like to use SayIt on a factory floor that's very noisy.
A. No problem. If you're working in a noisy environment,
we recommend a headset microphone. This lets you speak
into the microphone, but not pick up any background noise.
In fact, we have some users who use radio-controlled
microphones! This lets them walk away from their workstation,
but still automatically execute macros.
Q. How difficult is SayIt to install? Do I have to be superuser?
A. One of the major strengths of SayIt is its ease of use
and installation. For one thing, you don't need a root
password. If you can receive e-mail and use OpenWindows 3.0,
SayIt can be e-mailed to you. When you receive the mail
message, just click on the icon! SayIt will ask you a few
questions and then automatically install itself.
Q. What system configuration do I need to use SayIt?
A. SayIt runs on a Sun SPARCstation under SunOS 4.1.1 or
later with OpenWindows 3.0 or later.
Q. Can I get an evaluation copy of SayIt?
A. Yes. The evaluation copy will let you set up and execute
a limited number of application and command macros. Contact
Qualix for further details.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. The list price of SayIt is $295. However, for a limited
time only, you can purchase SayIt at a special introductory
price of $195.
Q. Sounds great! How do I buy one?
A. Call Qualix at 1-800-245-UNIX or send e-mail to info@qualix.com.
Our UNIX software specialists will be glad to provide
additional information.
