here are black atheists and black humnists.  Not enough, but they are
slowly coming out.

I don't usually make it a point to exercise discrimination in any form.
Anyone who considers themselves part of the Bright constituency is welcome
to sign up.  Ethnic background is of no consequence.

In just the past month, the Brights' network has expanded geographically
from 3 nations to 57 (that's 30% of the countries in the world). The
Dennett article in the New York Times produced over 1,000 new Brights in
19 hours.

I can't imagine that if there are 57 nations represented that there are no
asians or blacks or hispanics.  

If you have information about each and every member of the Bright
constituency which proves that there are no minorities, please provide it.

Meanwhile, I am hopeful that the Bright constituency will eventually be a
very technicolor constituency.

You seem to be pretty deeply involved in this, for a fairly long
time--in which case you must have encountered the "patronizing old
man" character. Kenji has achieved that character at an impressively
early age. Although not quite consistent yet, he dishes out quite a
performance if the circumstances are right. It is unconscious, too,
which makes for a more powerful effect. Allow me to explain these
circumstances. First, the insistence of "brights" to shove atheism
in everyone's face raises bile in a certain kind of person. (On the
other hand, equally radically atheistic religions such as Buddhism,
say, will not make the slightest impact on these people, because
they are "religions", of which these people are quite tolerant.)
Combine this with the rest of their personality and you get a
standard-issue inarticulate jeering old fart, ready with the dumbest
"logical objections" to atheists congregating etc. We have heard
these jeers several times even on this group. Imagine then if a
WOMAN is uppity enough to spout atheism. That goes against practically
everything such a jeering man stands for. Naturally he will have nothing
to say except call her a "hot little number" etc. There is no further
content in that remark. Actually I am surprised that vague allusions
to expensive education etc haven't surfaced, because they are also
staples of these situations. Independent-thinking women better be
quite prepared for no-thinking jeering men, in particular recognizing
them quickly and ignoring them. (Take the case of abolitionist white
women in the south--few things could be more calculated to rouse utter
speechless fury given the time and place. Therefore, they were talked
about as "liking it black", etc ... Sexual innuendo and jeering laughter
are very good at blanking out the image of a thinking, talking woman.)
