You may : need to use libraries specific to your operating system when doing real : programming, but that's not C++. Speaking of this, I've *NEVER* seen any ad for any of these correspondance courses for C++. Can someone cite me a magazine's month and year that has this? The only Windows programming course I've seen is based on Visual Basic. It has a C component, but it is Power C in DOS. I highly recommend just sending MIX software $25, since you'd get a book as good as anything else and you could use the other $1975 for buying a monster Pentium and a Linux CD-ROM :) I became profoundly skeptical of any of these schools when I saw a COBOL course that was taught on a sub-standard 386 (yes, in 1995!) and used some COBOL I'd never heard of instead of MicroFocus or some other industry leader. Hardly would that prepare you for the real world of programming! I imagine all the others are the same way. Given that underwhelming system (and I imagine the training would have to be equally underwhelming), I just bought a COBOL book. Scott
