Sometimes things don't work out quite like this though. I just re-financed
my car through a credit union (better interest rate, and I was fed up with
the bank that originally gave me the loan). The credit union sent a cheque
to the bank to pay the loan, and the bank sent the pink slip to the credit
union (actually in both cases they let me just carry things from one office
to the other). Then the credit union sent all the paperwork to the DMV to
register themselves as the lienholder. Yesterday I received a letter from
the DMV which I think said that they wouldn't actually register the change
of lienholder until I renewed the registration (which is due in about six
weeks) ... at least thats what it looks like they said. Maybe they just
mean that they won't issue a new registration certificate?

B.T.W. The envelope from the DMV was printed with an request that I should
consider buying "Environmental Plates" ... what are they? Bio-degradeable
plates doesn't sound all that likely to me!
