Possibly.

But I think one of the reasons we have such a high standard
of living is the minimum wage. Even though most people make
more than minimum wage, it creates a mechanism where we
don't have desperate workers. This has a "trickle up"
effect on the whole economy.

If you are a person who is looking to hire someone cheap,
you need gardeners, housemaids, rickshaw drivers, etc, and
you yourself don't have to work for a living, then you'd
like to see a lot of people fighting to low-ball work bids.

But if you are someone who has to feed your family by
selling your labor, then it would be in your interests to
have an economy where jobs were plentiful, and paid well.

I did a lot of traveling when I was young, and I noticed
that the society in which there are a few rich people and a
lot of poor workers was not as nice a society in which
everyone was well-off, and the middle-class was secure and
comfortable, and most people with jobs were doing OK.

Prices might be higher; we might not have so much "stuff",
but we don't have the terrible situation of most of the
planet, with masses of poverty-stricken families trying to
make ends meet.
