Andy,
I really don't think the brand is as important as the parent support. My
son has a Packard Bell computer and purchased several programs for our
granddaughter to use. (Toy Story, Lion King, and I'm not sure what else.)
I have a Mac. It came with several programs including Sesame Street
Numbers. When Clarie is with her dad she uses IBM, here at gramma's she
easily switches to Mac. We load them in and let her go, staying nearby to
monitor and encourage. I wouldn't recommend turning a 5 year old loose
without supervision yet anyway. Kids today are pretty sharp. Whatever
you buy the child will learn more quickly than you or I did!
