A highly cynical response here by Darren :-) The "magic" is that they're very well written and fun to read for kids from 8 to 48. I've read them all and I can't wait for the new one. My wife & I will probably fight to read it first. I normally only devote this sort of appreciation to Tolkien, Feist & Wolfe. I "advertise" them by telling other adults how much I've enjoyed them.....I first heard of them by "word-of-mouth", not via the advertising! I hear that a Church school in Essex has banned them because Witchcraft is wicked...this is probably the sort of sad school that bans Halloween & subjects us instead to the puerile "Trick or Treat" instead. Regards, Paul Darren Wyn Rees wrote: > Ok, so what precisely is the magic behind J K Rowling's books ? 1. A great world-wide advertising campaign. 2. The 'kid' grape vine . 3. The "gotta have it syndrome" - one kid has one, the others want one (whether they read it or not) . 4. Mummy (see No.1) buys one hoping it will tear her non-reading kid away from the TV. 5. Librarians buy them because of (see No. 1) 6. Teachers buy them hoping to get some mileage in the way of "silent reading" in class and book reports longer than 3 sentences. (See No.1 plus teacher burnout) Only 1 and 2 above really work! See advertising below by Darren Wynn Rees <G>
