Two eminent senior scientists with deep expertise in arms control issues
will sketch out broad outlines for a global approach to the problems of
security and development at MIT Tuesday, November 10 in an event jointly
organized by the authors@mit series, sponsored by MIT Libraries and The
MIT Press Bookstore, and the MIT Technology and Culture Forum.
Philip Morrison, Institute Professor Emeritus and Kosta Tsipis, retired
Director of the Program in Science and Technology for International
Security at MIT, have just published their thoughts in a new book
available from The MIT Press, Reason Enough to Hope. Morrison and Tsipis
will present their ideas in what is bound to be an engaging forum hosted
and moderated by Christopher Lydon of WBURs popular radio talk show The
Connection.
Reason Enough to Hope is a broad-brush, blue sky approach to pressing
international issues and humanitarian concerns. It sets out priorities for
feasible action, with a threefold focus: war and particularly the
continuing dangers of nuclear weapons, population and the promotion of
increased levels of human well-being, and the threat of environmental
degradation. While the concerns are global, the authors stress the
important responsibilities of the United States for creating a better
future in the world of the 21st Century.
The event is free, open to the public, and wheelchair accessibile. Books
will be available for sale at a discount at the event and signed copies
may be ordered in advance.
